Gender Equality Attitudes-Values Clarification

Gauges men’s (or women’s) attitudes about gender equality (agency). It can also then be used to understand the broader values and norms that drive attitudes (structures), as well as give a sense of the dynamics surrounding gender relations.

Norms and Values Evolution

Questions how norms/values (structures) within a community have changed: what men and women / boys and girls have achieved (agency), how relationships and support systems have shifted, and their affect on a group's choices and opportunities (structures).

Force-Field Analysis

Explores the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors that constrain or reinforce a particular issue or condition. These factors can span across agency, structures and relations.

Class-Mobility Matrix

Explores the relationships that women had cultivated in a given community and their strength, and how women used or managed relationships (agency).

Decision-Making Exercises

A set of tools to explore which decisions are within the power of women girls and which are not. Variations focus on decisions related to sexual relations.

Benefits-Harms Profile Tool

Asks staff teams to reflect on emergencies in terms of structures (religious, political, ethnic and gendered characteristics of a community), agency (practices, assets and capabilities) and relations (attitudes and conflict).

Gender Socialization

Looks at how boys vs. girls are socialized in terms of what skills, behaviors and perceptions they learn to adopt (agency), how they relate with others (relations) and the values that underlie socialization of children from birth to marriage (structures).
